Eastern Bumble Bee and Tall Goldenrods

Bombus impatiens and Solidago altissima

These common bees look a lot like carpenter bees but they aren't! They are one of the most important pollinator species in eastern North America. A lot of the plants they feed on rely on them to bite the base of the flower and buzz to release pollen. Europeans had a hard time getting them to grow well before they figured this out.
